Biography

I received my Ph.D. from Howard University, Washington. D.C. and one of my Master’s Degree from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois; and another one from Vikram University, India. My post-doctoral research was conducted at Microbiological Associates, Inc., Bethesda, Maryland in the field of viral-chemical carcinogenesis and genetic expression of xenotropic viruses.

I worked as a Senior Research Scientist at Geomet Technologies, Inc., at Rockville, Maryland on “Chemical Exposures to workers in the Dye and Pigment Industries” and was one of the contributing authors in the preparation of profiles of chemicals under the National Toxicology Program of the Environmental Protection Agency.

My academic background includes working as an Associate Professor of Microbiology at Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona Beach from 1984-1994 and as a Senior Professor, and Director of Academic Research at Daytona State College, Daytona Beach from 1994-2015. During this academic career spanning over 31 years, I was the Project Director of grants from the National Institutes of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) and National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and on grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF). I have published research papers in peer reviewed journals.

I have successfully completed the Extra-Mural Associates Training [EARDA] program and completed the short courses offered by the National Institutes of Human Genome Research at Bethesda, Maryland.

I have conducted several grants workshop, each one on different areas of grants development. I am a member of the American Society of Microbiology (ASM), the Society of Research Administrators (SRA), Grant Professional Association (GPA) and American Evaluation Association (AEA).

Community activities include service to the less privileged through the Rotary Club, a member of the Daytona Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Advanced Toastmasters Club, Accelerated Pacesetters in Ormond Beach, Florida and Port Orange Toastmasters’ Club, Port Orange, FL. I am a public speaker, having done keynote speeches, speeches on scientific topics as well as on general motivational topics.

Dr. Nayar’s teaching, research and grant writing skills were of great benefit to Daytona State College and many people were positively impacted by his energy, passion and inspiration.
