Ram has been involved in grant writing and grant administration since 1984. He has written training grants and research grants successfully from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation during his tenure at Bethune-Cookman University and Daytona State College, both located in Daytona Beach, Florida. In addition to his grant writing skills, he is well versed in all aspects of grant proposal development, especially in the areas of evaluation, and budget preparation. Most of the grants he wrote are in the Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects, though he is also well versed in developing grant proposals in fields other than the sciences.
Ram is certified in the area of research involving human subjects, and serves as a member of the Institutional Review Board of two institutions of higher education, Bethune-Cookman University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Ram received his Ph.D. from Howard University, Washington D.C, and his M.S. Degree from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois. He did his post-doctoral training at Microbiological Associates, Bethesda, Maryland and then worked as a Senior Research Assistant at Geomet Technologies, in Rockville, Maryland. He is an Extramural Associate (EA) of the NIH, and participated in two workshops of the National Human Genome Research Institute of the NIH.
In June 2015 Ram retired from Daytona State College, Daytona Beach, Florida where he was Director of Academic Research and a Senior Professor of Microbiology. He started Dr.Ram LLC, to help other colleges and non-profit organizations to write proposals for funds as a consultant. As a consultant he is available for not only developing proposals, but also in giving seminars, and “hands-on” workshops in various aspects of grant development for his clients.
In addition to his expertise in grants, he is the host of a radio talk show called “Your Health Matters” in which he interviews scientists, physicians and other health care professionals twice a week. He is a motivational speaker. He also is available to speak at high schools and colleges on career choices and other general topics of interest.
He is a member of professional organizations, the American Society of Microbiology [ASM], Grant Professionals Association (GPA), and American Evaluation Association (AEA). He is a Rotarian, a member of the Daytona Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Toastmasters Club. Through the Rotary he is actively involved in the community on various projects in inner city schools of Volusia County.

As for his other activities, he writes poetry (science and non-science) when he has free time, and is the editor of the newsletter of the Rotary club in of which he is a member. He is an avid tennis player and likes to do outdoor activities and 5K & Half Marathon running.
Dr. Ram's mission
- To provide guidance, and advise to colleges and universities with the necessary tools to submit competitive grant proposals in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics [STEM] fields to different funding agencies, both public and private.
- To disseminate information on health and wellness related topics for the general public as well as for those who pursue a biomedical career through a radio talk show, “Your Health Matters” involving invited guests in the biomedical field.
